Херцег Нови and the rest of the Bay of Kotor

There are many places to explore around he bay. Along the coastline of the bay are small but nice villages, many places to swim and to relax. Only in Igalo you will find a kind of mass tourism. Igalo's neighbor town Herceg Novi is a nice one. It is much younger than the other towns in the region and has therefore a different, more medieval, charm. The fortress provides a plenty view over the bay and it contains an amphitheater. I noticed that all streets are very clean and the tourists look more rich than in other parts of Montenegro. Many of them are Russians which is perhaps one reason why Cyrillic is used as main script in this town (while in the rest of Montenegro it is only rarely used). Many of the inhabitants see themselves as Serbians which might be another reason. However, this town is perfect for enjoying a noble, bohemian atmosphere. Note that it is not expensive to go there for vacation, it is just more expensive than in other parts of Montenegro.
While sitting at the fortress I listened to La Buena Vida who make, as the name says, music for the bright side of life. An example:

View from the fortress towards Kotor.
View to the beginning of the bay.
The headland in the middle of the image is already part of Croatia.
A church and its campanile in the town.
The market. It is outside the old town that  can be
entered through the gate tower  in the middle of the image.
Typical street in the newer part of the town.
The amphitheater inside the fortress.
It is used for many events during the summer season.

There are local buses every half an hour from Herceg Novi to Kamenari. There is a car ferry that is free for pedestrians and that runs every 5 minutes. From the ferry you have a great view to Perast. (Unfortunately I didn't have the time to visit it.) The ferry brings you to the modern village of Tivat. I say modern because its old town consists of only a few houses and the rest looks like an average tourist place with supermarkets, upper-class coffee stores etc. However, obviously the locals like the new town center (was opened about 2 years ago) and recommended it to me several times.

View from the ferry at Perast.
There are many official swimming places. This one is in Donja Lastva where you have a perfect view to the amazing landscape (the mountain is the Radoštak).
